Celine Dion Made a Tearful Comeback to the Stage

Celine Dion Made a Tearful Comeback to the Stage

Celine Dion teared up in the first few minutes of her Paris concert, her first full concert in over six years.

On Saturday at the Plenitude Arena outside of Paris, Céline Dion took the stage for her first full concert in over six years and immediately started to cry. Wouldn’t you?

“I had promised myself not to cry,” she told the audience . “But I’m so happy to see you all. I missed you. I’m going to sing, like you, without crying.” After the first couple of songs, Dion took a moment to address the crowd with a slightly longer heartfelt speech. “I made a promise. I made a promise to come back, to be back onstage,” she said. “So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing life!” She thanked everyone in the audience for “your support, your patience, and,” she added, referencing her own song, “I am everything I am because you loved me.”

Dion also urged the audience to look around at the other people in the room and remember that “we don’t know what the person next to us is going through.” She said, “There are people going through hardships, grief, and sorrow. There are people radiating energy and joy. So let’s take that energy and share it. That’s what music is for. Tonight we’ll sing, we’ll dance, and we’ll celebrate.”

The singer was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome , a rare neurological disorder, in 2022, causing her to postpone her European tour. Since then, Dion has shared details of her life with the disorder in a documentary , but she has not been able to perform a full concert until now. She teased the big comeback in March , and her emotional return did not disappoint. The show lasted over two hours and 20 minutes and included all of the singer’s greatest hits: “The Power of Love,” “Because You Loved Me,” “Pour Que tu M’aimes Encore,” “All by Myself,” “I’m Alive,” and “My Heart Will Go On.”
