New algorithm-free music discovery platform, Corus, launched
Launched by Cymbal co-founder Gabe Jacobs, Corus aims to give music and film fans a cross between Instagram and Letterboxd
A new music and film discovery platform has launched with a focus on human-curated recommendations.
Created by Gabe Jacobs, who previously co-founded the music-sharing app Cymbal , Corus is designed to help users discover songs and films through posts shared by other users rather than through algorithms.
Available as both a mobile app and desktop version, it combines a social media-style interface similar to Instagram with the structured logging and curation approach of Letterboxd, allowing users to follow others, browse curated lists, and track what they listen to and watch.
“The important thing is that it’s a place where it’s all about what you love, not about what you hate like other platforms”, Jacobs wrote on Reddit . “It’s a celebration of art and of what you feel in the moment. Art is just better when it comes from real people."
Another recent example of algorithm-free discovery tools includes lazyrecords , an app that uses the Discogs records database to give users custom recommendations.
