Trump dined with Amodei after saying he is for ‘let’s go and let’s win’

Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei had dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House on Sunday night, Semafor confirmed. It was the first one-on-one meeting between the two, which Axios first reported and TNW covered on Sunday.

Hours before the dinner, Trump said he planned to raise Amodei’s call to slow AI development, Bloomberg reported. Trump was speaking on the sidelines of a golf tournament near Chicago.

“We’re going to talk about it,” Trump said. “I’m for, ‘Let’s go and let’s win.’”

Amodei called for the slowdown in an essay on 12 September. Trump rejected the idea in a string of social media posts, one of which named Amodei.

Amodei’s opponents also sent the White House a negative brief about him, Maria Curi reported for Axios , which reviewed the document. It casts Amodei as having “a long record of attacking Trump” and “deep Democratic ties”. The brief is not an internal White House document, and its origin is unclear.

The brief also points to Anthropic’s falling out with the Pentagon.

“Clear example of Dario showing he doesn’t trust President Trump,” the brief says of the dispute.

On Friday, a federal appeals court upheld the Pentagon’s designation of Anthropic as a supply chain risk.

On Tuesday, Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson will host AI chief executives at the White House, Semafor reported. The same day, Trump will launch a new AI-powered government website with Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, according to Bloomberg. Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown is also set to attend.
