Amsterdam venue Tilla Tec is closing down

The unique workplace, cafe, cocktail bar, gallery and dance floor has mere months to live

Amsterdam venue Tilla Tec is closing down. A social media post confirmed that the final parties will be held in November.

Occupying the same building that once housed legendary club De School, which was itself shuttered in 2024, Tilla Tec opened just months later . Comprising a workplace, cafe, restaurant, cocktail bar, community centre, and 900-capacity event space across two rooms, it became a vital cultural fixture in Amsterdam's scene.

"This is not just a goodbye to a building. It’s a love letter to the people who made it mean something, the family that runs it," the venue's Instagram post read. "When Tilla Tec began, it was never about its countless walls, sound systems, or dance floors. It was about creating a place where queer people, creatives, outsiders, and allies could come together and to build a home, somewhere to be able to let your guard down.

"Over the span of this project, that dream became a reality, and the community became a family. A beautiful, chaotic, emotional experiment held together by the people you see in this film. These people have breathed life into this building, giving it a soul and one hell of a big heart. They are Tilla Tec," it continued. "This November, we will celebrate our Grand Finale and close this chapter together. One last marathon. One last dance. One last chance to fill these walls, shoulder to shoulder with you all. To everyone who stood by me and made this project the sensation it has become today this is for you.. Thank you.

"The story of Tilla Tec was never written by one person. It was written by all of us."

Line-ups for the last events are yet to be revealed. This summer the venue will host artists and DJs such as Sandrien, Carista , CEM , Bjarki , and more.

Since inception, it has also been used for parties during ADE, which returns in October. Although the full programme has yet to be fully revealed, thousands of names will play thousands of parties in hundreds of places across Amsterdam. Spanning five days, electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre has already been confirmed for one of the Opening Concerts.
