Signed Martin Garrix New York Knicks jersey sells for £10k at auction

The Dutch DJ wore the NBA Championship jersey during his second show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center

A signed New York Knicks jersey worn by Martin Garrix has sold at auction for around £10,000.

The Dutch DJ wore the basketball jersey during his second sold-out show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Friday (12th June), less than 24 hours before the New York Knicks secured their first NBA Championship title since 1973.

Garrix’s performance in Brooklyn formed part of a three-night run at the arena, as part of the Americas Tour , his largest run of headline shows to date.

The XL jersey, which sold to a US buyer for a winning bid of £9,533, has the name ‘Marty’ embroidered on the back and Garrix’s signature over the number 96, his birth year.

It was sold via MatchWornShirt , a platform that typically auctions sports memorabilia and match-worn items from professional athletes. The sale marks the first time they have auctioned sports memorabilia worn by a musician.

MWS co-founder Bob Zonderwijk commented: “Normally, we auction match-worn shirts from athletes, such as the shirts currently being worn during the World Cup. Music and sport have one thing in common: they bring people together around moments you won’t soon forget. Martin Garrix combines sports history, pop culture and emotion. That is precisely what makes the shirt extra special.”

During the second show of the three-night run, Garrix was joined by Ed Sheeran for a rendition of their recent collaborative single, ‘ Repeat It ’. The track landed last month on Garrix’s 30th birthday, after the pair originally recorded it over a decade ago. Garrix also played out some new music during the shows, including his forthcoming collaborative track with Madonna , ‘Bizarre’.

Earlier this month, Garrix confirmed in an interview with Toronto radio station KiSS 92.5 that he has been working on the follow-up to his 2022 debut album, ‘Sentio’, and that it would be released later this year.
