Premier League spending tests European valuations
English clubs are facing stiff price resistance from European sellers as summer transfer demands routinely breach the £50 million mark, illustrating the Premier League's outsized financial weight.
Liverpool’s attempt to sign 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande highlights the current market friction. The club had a £100 million bid rejected by RB Leipzig. A similar £100 million valuation is being applied by Newcastle United to Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali, 26, causing Tottenham Hotspur to have a second bid turned down.
The high price floor is not limited to the Premier League. Borussia Dortmund has stated it will not sell Germany midfielder Felix Nmecha, 25, for less than £86 million. Southampton is in advanced talks to sign midfielder Dan Neil, a free agent released by Sunderland after helping Ipswich Town win promotion.
