The strong growth dynamics of Cluj International Airport and its increasingly close strategic, economic and tourism links with Greece were highlighted at a special event held in Athens by senior executives of the airport.

The airport, the main gateway to the historically and economically growing Transylvania region, is recording strong performance and significantly expanding its network, said CEO David Ciceo.

Since its establishment as a civil airport in 1932, Cluj International Airport has developed into a leading regional airport in Romania and the second largest in the country after Bucharest’s Otopeni airport.

According to available data, 2025 marked a milestone year, with the airport handling 3.58 million passengers, up 10% year-on-year, and recording more than 30,000 aircraft movements.

Its performance was recognised with the Best Airport in Europe award (in the under 5 million passengers category) by ACI Europe in 2021.

Forecasts point to a steady upward trajectory, with the airport targeting the milestone of 10 million passengers by 2045.
