French audio firm We Are Rewind launches €179 Pink Floyd player
A French audio company is betting that consumers will pay a premium for analogue nostalgia, partnering with Pink Floyd to release a high-end cassette player.
French audio firm We Are Rewind has launched a limited-edition cassette player in partnership with Pink Floyd, targeting consumers willing to pay a premium for physical music formats. The device, priced at €179, includes an exclusive, specially remastered cassette of the band's album, The Dark Side Of The Moon.
The product is a branded version of the company’s aluminium WE-001 player. It features modern specifications such as a 12-hour rechargeable battery, a 3.5mm headphone output, and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. We Are Rewind states the device includes "a unique headphone amplifier designed with cassette playback in mind" and is "optimised for 2026 with true hi-fi sound".
For the French manufacturer, the release represents a continuation of its licensing-heavy business strategy. The firm has previously partnered with the estates of Elvis and Duran Duran, as well as the video game Fortnite and the database Discogs. By attaching its hardware to established intellectual property, We Are Rewind is attempting to carve out a profitable niche in the premium audio market.
This approach relies on the enduring commercial value of legacy music catalogues. Romain Boudruche, founder and CEO of We Are Rewind, positioned the product as a defence of physical media. "We're happy that We Are Rewind can play a part in helping preserve the physical album experience," he said.
The collaboration demonstrates how classic rock acts are extending their revenue streams beyond digital streaming into high-margin, limited-run consumer electronics. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason endorsed the format's historical significance. "I still have enormous affection for the cassette. It really was a major breakthrough," he said.
Mason also highlighted the cyclical nature of music consumption trends. "Am I correct in assuming that the next major issue will be The Dark Side Of The Moon in a large package consisting of the album divided up into 78 RPM discs?" he asked.
