Robbie Williams has responded after social media spent the better part of Sunday night convinced a mysterious white object that fell onto his microphone during a live World Cup interview was cocaine.

The moment occurred after Williams’ appearance during the FIFA World Cup Final festivities, when viewers noticed something small and white drop onto his microphone during an interview with German television. After he removed it from the mic and accidentally stuck it to his forehead, the clip quickly spread online with fans speculating that it had fallen from his nose.

Given Williams’ well-documented history with addiction and recovery, the clip quickly became the subject of online rumors. Rather than address them directly, Williams responded Monday morning with a tongue-in-cheek Instagram video.

Beginning as though he were about to make a serious confession, the singer instead opened his mouth to reveal a pair of mints before smiling at the camera. He captioned the clip, “Just woke up and feeling…. Mint x.”

The explanation lines up with what many viewers had already suspected after watching the clip more closely, with some suggesting the object appeared to come from Williams’ mouth rather than his nose.

The viral interview followed Williams’ appearance during Sunday’s FIFA World Cup Final festivities , where he performed the official FIFA anthem “Desire” alongside Laura Pausini and Nicole Scherzinger as part of the tournament’s entertainment lineup.
