Kaylee Hottle, an 18-year-old American actress recognized for her prominent roles in the Godzilla franchise, has died following a single-vehicle collision in Maryland. Police officers in Frederick County responded to the scene in Ijamsville at approximately 02:50 local time on Tuesday morning.
Law enforcement officials indicated that excessive speed is suspected to have contributed to the fatal incident. A 19-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, while a second passenger declined medical assistance at the site.
Her father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed the tragic loss through a video statement published on Facebook. He delivered the message using American Sign Language to formally detail the circumstances surrounding her passing.
Hottle’s sudden passing represents a significant loss for Warner Bros, the major studio that distributed the globally successful monster films. She portrayed Jia, a young deaf orphan, in the 2021 blockbuster Godzilla vs Kong. She subsequently reprised the character for the 2024 sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Her presence in these massive international releases alongside Hollywood stars like Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, and Rebecca Hall highlighted the commercial and cultural value of inclusive casting. This commitment to representation earned her a Saturn Award nomination for best younger performer in a film for her work in the 2024 sequel.
