Lizzy McAlpine has revealed “The light in the painting,” the lead single off her newly announced fourth album Angel .
On “The light in the painting,” a lovestruck McAlpine picks up where she left off on her previous album, Older . It begins with a minimalist glow, McAlpine comparing her new love to “the light in the painting/ that my eye is drawn to first.” The arrangement then grows in majesty, with acoustic guitar, gentle piano, patient drums, and a sense of graceful release floating in. McAlpine’s style is usually quite naturalistic, and “The light in the painting” doubles down by expressing warmth, awestruck beauty, and an undisturbed peace. “I wrote ‘The light in the painting’ about the euphoric beginning of a new connection,” McAlpine said of the new track. “It’s the first song I wrote for the album, almost two years ago now, and feels like the perfect introduction to the world we’ve built for Angel. ” Angel will arrive on September 18th via RCA Records.
