Ibiza to experience rare total solar eclipse next month, clubs announce special events
A series of eclipse-themed sunset events are planned for the occasion, including a Pikes takeover at 528 Ibiza featuring DJ Harvey
Ibiza is set to witness a rare total solar eclipse next month.
The eclipse will coincide with sunset over the Balearic Islands, with totality expected between approximately 8:26PM and 8:32PM local time.
Clubs and venues across the White Isle are marking the occasion with special events on the evening of Wednesday 12th August, combining sunset views with extended sets and all-night celebrations.
Pikes has announced a DJ Harvey takeover at 528 Ibiza to coincide with the eclipse, with festivities running from 6PM until 4AM. Guest DJs are still to be revealed.
“It’s a full solar eclipse with totality lasting over two minutes as the sun sets”, DJ Harvey shared on Instagram . “I’ll be playing an extended set to soundtrack it before moving the party inside... With all the elements at play with us it’s going to be truly epic!”
Elsewhere, Feels Like Eclipse festival will take over S’Arenal Beach in San Antonio, with Franky Rizardo, Miguelle & Tons, and Adrian b2b Alex O. confirmed as headliners. More names are set to be announced soon.
Cova Santa will mark the celestial event with a special Woomoon 10 Year Anniversary | Eclipse Special . Celebrating a decade of the island’s long-running bohemian party, the event will feature sets from Sven Väth , André Hommen, Valentín Huedo and Tanika, timed to coincide with the eclipse before continuing into the night.
For spectators not attending one of the organised events, locations with clear sightlines will offer the best views, as the eclipse will occur close to the horizon and the shift into darkness may be more subtle than during a typical daytime eclipse.
According to The Ibiza Times , some of the best spots to watch the eclipse on the island include Cala Comte, Cala d’Hort, Es Vedrà , San Antonio Bay and Sa Figuera Borda.
Björk will be marking the occasion in her own way in her home of Iceland, hosting the one-day Echolalia festival in Víðistaðatún, Hafnarfjörður, with Arca , Sideproject and Ronja Jóhannsdóttir joining her on the line-up.
