Cameron Norrie has advanced to his first semi-final of the 2026 season following a comprehensive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bernard Tomic at the Los Cabos Open. The British fifth seed required just 50 minutes to secure the straight-sets win in Mexico.
This result marks a sharp reversal of fortune for Norrie, who arrived at the tournament enduring a six-match losing streak. He has now compiled three consecutive straight-set victories, rebuilding momentum ahead of a high-stakes last-four encounter.
Tomic entered the main draw as a lucky loser from qualifying and managed to hold his serve in the opening game. However, he subsequently dropped the next 12 games as Norrie controlled the pace and execution of the match.
Norrie attributed the dominant performance to solid returning and effective movement on the court. "I was very solid, I returned well, I made a lot of tough balls when I needed to, and I kept him moving," he stated.
The victory provides a crucial psychological boost after a difficult clay and grass court swing. Norrie noted that he had overtrained slightly before the French Open, followed by tough losses at Wimbledon and Queen's, which delayed his return to confidence.
"To get a win here meant a lot," Norrie explained. He emphasized that he is now playing with greater freedom and enjoyment rather than overthinking his strategy.
His next opponent will be defending champion Denis Shapovalov, who advanced by defeating Dalibor Svrcina in straight sets. Shapovalov remains the only other seeded player left in the tournament draw.
Norrie acknowledged the challenge posed by the Canadian, noting his opponent's current confidence and familiarity with the local conditions. "When he's confident, he's one of the toughest guys in the world to play," Norrie observed.
The opposite side of the draw features Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong against France’s Arthur Gea. Gea reached this stage after upsetting third seed Francisco Cerundolo.
