Former Foxing frontman Conor Murphy announced the new Smidley album in June. So far we've heard " Capstone " featuring Lucy Dacus and " Love In Every Direction " from Murphy Horse , and now he's sharing the title track.
"'Murphy Horse' became the album title when I realized this song summed up the themes I was exploring most concisely," Murphy explains. "I felt confused, exhausted and aimless thinking about the future. The reincarnation theme (albeit a tenuous and shallow one) was really born out of hopelessness. In this life, I fail to make the art I want to make. In the next life, maybe I won't even know what art or music is. To me, there's something calming in that."
Despite that rather depressing explanation, none of Foxing's emo energy can be found in "Murphy Horse"; the track is bright and colorful, focused on hooks and good vibes more than anything else. Watch the video animated by Murphy and Steven Pitingolo below.
