Sky Sports leverages US Open draw and European stars for autumn streaming push

Sky Sports and its streaming platform NOW will broadcast the final Grand Slam of 2026, leveraging a draw heavy with European talent to drive subscriber engagement ahead of the autumn sports calendar.

The draw for the 2026 US Open men’s and women’s singles tournaments at Flushing Meadows in New York has been published, setting the stage for the final Grand Slam of the year beginning on 30 August. European broadcasters are positioning this event as a key content pillar, with Sky Sports Tennis, Sky Sports+ and the NOW streaming service slated to cover the tournament extensively.

For media companies, the late-summer tennis calendar represents a critical bridge between major seasonal sporting events. The presence of high-profile European players provides a reliable mechanism to retain and attract subscribers to platforms like the Sky Sports app.

In the men’s draw, top seed Alexander Zverev opens against Lorenzo Sonego in the top half. Fellow European heavyweights face demanding early tests, with Novak Djokovic scheduled to meet Mariano Navone and Carlos Alcaraz facing Roman Safiullin in the bottom half. British interest is also present, with Arthur Fery drawn against 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti.

The women’s singles draw similarly features a strong European contingent headlined by top seed Aryna Sabalenka, who will play Camila Osorio. Iga Swiatek opens her campaign against Wang Xinyu, and Katie Boulter is set to face Carol Lee in the top half. These matchups offer recognizable names that drive viewership metrics for rights holders.

The commercial value of this tennis block is further amplified by its proximity to other major events on the same broadcaster’s roster. Sky Sports has also scheduled live coverage of the Laver Cup at The O2 in London from 25 to 27 September.

This consecutive programming strategy allows broadcasters to bundle premium tennis content, minimizing subscriber churn during the transition from summer to autumn. The reliance on established stars like Djokovic, Sabalenka, and Swiatek ensures that the broadcast product remains anchored by globally recognized talent, supporting the broader commercial ecosystem of European sports media.
