A pop-up show from Amsterdam duo ANOTR was shut down by police in Manchester over the weekend after it descended into “chaos”.
The duo were scheduled to perform a one-off surprise show in a secret location in Manchester on Friday, May 29, with free tickets given away to fans online.
The location was set for the Projekts MCR Skatepark on London Road, where fans flocked to catch ANOTR’s pop-up set on Friday evening.
According to Manchester Evening News (MEN) , the duo’s performance was stopped shortly after it began as the makeshift venue filled to capacity, and fans scaled its surrounding fences in an attempt to get inside.
ANOTR then jumped on the mic to tell fans: "This pop-up is one in, one out, first come, first served. Everyone, make sure no one is jumping the fences, otherwise this party is gonna be shut down."
MEN reports that more tickets were believed to have been issued than the venue could hold. Videos circulating on TikTok showed rowdy scenes as fans attempted to get inside, climbing portaloos and fences surrounding the site.
The pop-up event was eventually cancelled over safety concerns and "unrest" outside the venue, with ANOTR performing just 30 minutes of their scheduled three-hour show.

In a since released statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said (via MEN ): "We attended but only briefly - security handled it and everyone dispersed soon after."
The duo also expressed their "disappointment" over the event's cancellation, saying in a statement: "Unfortunately, people started climbing the fences, and the police decided to stop the event. Hopefully we’ll get another chance to make it happen!"
The surprise show took place just a day before ANOTR’s No Art Open Air festival at Bolesworth Castle on Saturday, May 30, which was promised to be their “biggest UK edition yet”.
