Amazon adapting Stephen King’s Crouch End among three UK greenlights

Prime Video has ordered a series adaptation of Stephen King’s London-set short story Crouch End , among several other new UK-produced shows unveiled on Thursday during the Edinburgh TV Festival.

The six-part limited series is produced by Mammoth Screen (Hercule, The Serpent) and Fifth Season (East of Eden, Severance), with Paul Tomalin (Bodies) penning the adaptation.

Amazon said the greenlight marks the first time that a story from the iconic horror and supernatural author has been produced out of the UK.

The short story begins with a famous actress bursting into a London police station claiming strange phenomena are behind the disappearance of her husband. From there, police must investigate whether she’s telling the truth, whether she could be a murderer, or whether there’s something even more chilling at play.

In addition to Tomalin, executive producers on the adaptation include director Tom Shankland, Damien Timmer, Rebecca Keane and Ben Irving.

Prime Video also revealed two other projects on Thursday: a documentary series about British Formula One driver Lando Norris and a reality series fronted by retired footballer and media personality Peter Crouch.

Produced by Box to Box Films (Drive to Survive), Lando (working title) is a three-part series following Norris’s life on and off the track as he vies to defend his world championship. The project is slated to premiere on Prime Video next year. Executive producers include Tom Keeling, Warren Smith and Jon Smith.

Prime Video also ordered The Crouches, following the lives of Crouch and his partner Abbey Clancy as they navigate big milestones. The project is produced by Banijay UK label Workerbee and will launch next year. Executive producers include Rick Murray, Ben Hirsch, Ben Mitchell and Demi Doyle.

The greenlights join other UK originals from Amazon MGM Studios, including The Boys of Tommen, Bait, Clarkson’s Farm, The Girlfriend, Steal, My Fault: London and Last One Laughing UK.
