The “world’s first generative AI guitar” has landed after launching a successful Kickstarter campaign.

The Melo-D allows you to play the guitar "in seconds" and has three modes of operation: solo, sing-along and AI creation. This means you can hum a melody and the guitar transcribes it into a guitar solo, or you can type a text prompt for song generation. You can also upload an existing audio file and it converts it into playable tabs or chord charts.

The brainchild of TemPolor, a music tech company "redefining music licensing with AI-powered innovation", the smart guitar features a foldable design for portable use, while there's a 2.4” LCD touchscreen and an LED neck with notes that light up to help you learn.

The Melo-D can be played as a standalone device or connected to an external app.

The launch price of the pearl white-coloured Melo-D is $399, and you can order one from Kickstarter here . The item is expected to ship in September.

A report from Deezer last month found that AI-generated music accounts for 44% of uploads to the streaming platform. Meanwhile, last year Spotify removed 75 million AI-generated "spam" tracks in a fraud crackdown.
