Extreme sports pair cycle 24,000km around Europe

Josefine Rutkowski and partner Jonas Deichmann have successfully completed another extreme sports project together by cycling 24,000 kilometres around Europe.

They started their quest from Munich on April 25 before returning to the Bavarian capital after the epic feat.

"Nine hours in the saddle every day over such a long period without a rest day drains your reserves, especially as the options for supplies were very difficult, particularly in eastern Europe," Deichmann said.

But the variety of landscapes in the 27 countries they travelled through, "the hospitality and the many wonderful encounters across Europe really thrilled us," the 39-year-old stressed.

The pair first headed to Italy and then travelled clockwise along Europe's borders. They avoided Russia and Ukraine because of the war.Â

There was no support team, with Rutkowski and Deichmann having to carry their own luggage and provisions.Â

Deichmann is well-known for his extreme sport challenges. In just three and a half weeks, he plans to run 30 marathons on 30 consecutive days across the German state of Baden-Württemberg for the charity initiative "MOVE IT!"
