Iron Maiden kicked off their North American “Run for You Lives” tour with two shows at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Saturday and Sunday.
The 17-song set, which was identical both nights in Toronto, practically served as a greatest-hits performance, featuring such favorites as “Phantom of the Opera,” “2 Minutes to Midnight,” “Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” “Run to the Hills,” “The Trooper,” “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” “Fear of the Dark,” and the set-closer “Wasted Years.”
Being in Canada, at one point singer Bruce Dickinson poked fun at Donald Trump’s recent order to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” saying, “We got here, we crossed Lake Ontario, we will be crossing the Gulf of Mexico. It is a ridiculous state of the world.”
Megadeth, who are in the midst of a farewell tour, proved support at both Toronto shows, playing a nine-song set each night with some slight variance from Saturday to Sunday. The Dave Mustaine-led band will be on board for the remainder of the tour, with Anthrax jumping on select dates, as well.
