Tola Peckham launches fundraiser after burglars steal £30,000 worth of equipment
In the 27th August break-in, thieves stole DJ gear, soundsystem components, bar stock and even card readers: "Unfortunately, they got the lot"
Burglars stole £30,000 worth of equipment and stock in a "devastating" break-in at Peckham club Tola.
The South London venue, renovated earlier this year, reported thieves had stolen all the DJ equipment, sound system components, the till system including card readers and a few grand in alcohol and bar stock, as well as caused significant damage to the building in a break-in on 27th August.
"Unfortunately, they got the lot", the club's team wrote on the initial Instagram statement .
Tola has now launched a GoFundMe campaign , titled "The Dance Must Go On", to support the venue's recovery and repurchasing of stolen equipment and goods. Images included in the GoFundMe campaign description show CCTV stills from the burglary and photos of the damage.
Club co-founder Tom Broadbent revealed in a second statement that, "frustratingly", insurance won't be covering any costs, "which makes the financial blow from this devastating for us". "Like all small venues and businesses, we've been through a lot over the last few years", Broadbent said, "but this isn't going to be something we can absorb on our own".
Donations via the fundraiser will go towards replacing DJ and till equipment, covering rental fees for interim equipment hire, repairing damage, bolstering venue security and general venue needs and support. Tola is offering a range of gifts, including free entry and drinks, to those who donate specific amounts, detailed on Instagram . More than £7,000 of the £50,000 goal has been raised in the first few days of the campaign.
