Sister Gemini, “Silver Ladder”

For the past few months, the Los Angeles indie band Sister Gemini have been rolling out their debut album Screaming Crying Laughing Sighing . It's out this Friday, and it merits your attention.

Sister Gemini play a poppy yet introspective version of alternative rock, the kind where every song sounds like it could be on a treasured CD you bought in the '90s after discovering the band on MTV. That's exemplified by "Silver Ladder," the final advance track from Screaming Crying Laughing Sighing . It's a bit too uptempo and hard-hitting to be a ballad, but it moves with a wistful grace, and the aching guitar solo before the grand finale is a thing of beauty. "Now I’ve cut my hair, changed my number too/ Moved across the city just to escape you," Remy Jean sings. "Who knew that I’d hate you by the time that I was your age?"
