Apple Music to introduce tag for AI-generated tracks

Apple Music has said that it will begin tagging tracks made using AI later this year.

While the streaming platform does not currently ban music made using artificial intelligence , unlike platforms such as Bandcamp and Beatport , it said that it will soon implement “Made With AI” labels.

According to Variety , a note to the platform’s industry partners said that any music submitted by record labels and distributors will be required to contain tags if a track is made using AI, though it’s unclear when this will be implemented.

"As we implement Made With AI labels, content providers will be important partners," Apple Music said (via Variety ). "They are best positioned to know how their content was created, and the AI Transparency Tags that should be used."

It follows a plan made earlier this year to implement transparency tagging, in which the platform said it would let listeners know whether music was made using AI. Those plans never materialised.

Spotify announced a similar crackdown on AI-generated music earlier this month, unveiling plans for an "AI artist" tag for tracks to distinguish them from human creators; music carrying the tag will be automatically blocked from algorithm recommendations to users.

Earlier this year, Apple Music’s Vice President, Oliver Schusser, said that the platform demonetised two billion “fraudulent” music streams in 2025.

Schusser told The Hollywood Reporter in February that the platform was making efforts to penalise those who are caught "engaging in streaming fraud", with demonetised streams accounting for around $17 million in royalties.

In another interview with Billboard in April, Schusser claimed that more than a third of all tracks uploaded to Apple Music are made entirely using AI.
