Bristol’s Noods Radio joins D.A.B+ for the first time

Noods Radio , the independent station launched in Bristol in 2015, has joined D.A.B+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting+) for the very first time.
After more than a decade showcasing underground dance music, the station will now join a large radio coverage area across Bristol as of today, August 24.
The station, which was born out of a living room in Stoke’s Croft and has since taken shape across pubs and venues in Bristol before finding a permanent home at music venue Mickey Zoggs in 2021, will still continue to broadcast globally online.
Noods Radio director Jack Machin calls it a "surreal" experience to join digital radio broadcasting. "We started Noods in a living room because we wanted somewhere for people to share the music they cared about," he explains.
"Since then, we’ve broadcast from a pub, a room above The Croft, Hamilton House and finally a venue of our own on Cheltenham Road."
Noods is now permanently housed at Mickey Zoggs, where it also runs community events, and is described as a "cultural meeting point" by its team.

In 2024, Noods launched a crowdfunding campaign to save itself from closure amidst threats of eviction. The community around the station raised enough money to protect the venue.
"Hearing Noods through radios in kitchens, cafés, workshops, shops and cars across Bristol will feel surreal," Machin says. "We’ve grown, but we’re still rooted in Stokes Croft and driven by the same curiosity and independence that we started with."
