A new nightclub with a late-night licence is set to take over a former Odeon cinema on Bristol’s Union Street, Bristol 24/7 reports.
The space sits in Broadmead, a shopping district in Bristol’s city centre, which has been eyed up by UG Arts, the group behind the new SAWMILLS club in St Jude’s and Bristol-based party Alfresco Disco.
A premises licence application was taken to Bristol City Council’s licensing sub-committee yesterday, August 20, who unanimously voted in favour of the new space, per Bristol 24/7.
The former cinema will house a club and live music space with a focus on electronic music, but will also act as an arts venue hosting film screenings and theatre shows.
The venue has been granted a 5:AM licence for Friday and Saturday nights, and will be allowed to remain open until 4:AM throughout the week from Sundays through Thursdays.
It was also granted a licence for alcohol and hot food sales, and was given the go-ahead to host live music events. The only objection to the application reportedly came from nearby venue Electric Bristol, which is now being consulted on.

Speaking to Bristol 24/7 , project head Luke Turner noted: "We want to connect with different establishments in Bristol and beyond, and work with universities and different agencies to create a kind of broad celebration of music and the arts in Bristol."
While a name for the venue or an opening date are yet to be confirmed, Turner and partner Jack Scales have promised to invest £500,000 into the venue ahead of its launch.
