Beloved electronic musician Sofus Forsberg has died aged 56, Danish dance music platform STRØM has confirmed.
STRØM shared the news on August 12, describing the experimental producer as a “vital force” in Denmark’s dance music scene. "We’re saddened by the news that electronic music legend Sofus Forsberg has passed away," they shared.
"We want to emphasise the influence and great impact he had on the electronic music community, spanning more than three decades."
Fellow artist and friend of Forsberg, Roel Funcken, also confirmed the news on Facebook the same day, explaining that the late musician had been battling cancer for the past year.
"Sofus was one of those genuinely kind and gentle people. Soft-spoken, thoughtful, balanced, and incredibly sweet," Funcken wrote. "You will be deeply missed, man. Rest in peace."
Sofus Forsberg was born in Aarhus, Denmark, where he began his career in music as part of a rap-metal band named Impotators before discovering his love for electronic music in the early ‘00s.
He released several albums through the 2000s, first with ‘NO/1’ in 2002 and later with ‘Udefra’ in 2005, both celebrated for their experimental and IDM-leaning sounds.
According to Funcken, Sofus Forsberg was a "regular visitor and performer" at Mo:Dem Festival in Croatia, which paid tribute to the late musician at its most recent edition by playing his track ‘Dam Dam’ after he was too ill to attend.
During his career, Sofus also worked as a recording and performing artist for several record labels, and as a music teacher at both The Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC) in Copenhagen and the Sonic College in Kolding.
