World Pride 2026 Is Heading to Amsterdam: Here's What to Know About the Dutch Host City
Twenty-six years after the first World Pride in Rome, it's headed to the Netherlands for a multi-week spectacular—here's everything you need to know ahead of time.
Every few years, the LGBTQ+ communities and allies descend on a city for a jam-packed, multi-week program of events celebrating Pride. World Pride is the brainchild of InterPride, an organization that brings together Pride organizers from across the world to network, share knowledge, and maximize the impact of their equality efforts.
The first World Pride took place in Rome in 2000. Since then, cities including London (2012), Toronto (2014), Madrid (2017), and Sydney (2023) have hosted the event, with interest increasing over the years, resulting in millions passing through each destination to take part in the action.
For the first time ever, Amsterdam , the capital of the Netherlands, is hosting World Pride . It comes as the country celebrates 26 years since the legalization of gay marriage and 25 years since the first official ceremony.
World Pride Amsterdam 2026 sees an event program run from July 25, until August 8, 2026.
World Pride 2026 is centered on the theme of Unity. The organizers state: “In a world where tolerance and freedom for the LGBTQIA+ community are not a reality everywhere, Amsterdam wants to be a symbol of unity.”
