Celebrated IDM and electro artist Vector Lovers has died

Celebrated British producer Vector Lovers has died, his friends have confirmed.

News of Vector Lovers’ passing, real name Martin Wheeler, was shared by fellow musicians and friends of the late producer, The Black Dog, on Instagram yesterday (September 21).

"Very sad to hear that Martin (Vector Lovers) has passed away, he was a lovely bloke," the electronic group said. No further details around his death were confirmed.

Martin Wheeler began releasing music under the Vector Lovers alias in the early 2000s, at first through his own record label Iwari , and later through the renowned Glasgow imprint Soma Records .

Through Soma , Wheeler released four albums, the eponymous ‘Vector Lovers’ in 2004, 2005’s ‘Capsule For One’, 2007’s ‘Afterglow’, and later 2013’s ‘iPhonica’.

His work spanned IDM, electro, and experimental electronic music, also releasing work under the aliases Rosenbaum and Badly Born Droid.

Inspired by the likes of Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, Wheeler was also enamoured with hardware and computer music. In 2014, he received a César Award for his work on French-German drama film Age of Uprising .

Speaking in a tribute on Instagram earlier today, September 22, Wheeler’s label Soma Records shared: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and producer Martin Wheeler."

"Martin was a lovely person and a very talented producer," they added. "As Vector Lovers, Martin released four albums and numerous singles on Soma , and we are so grateful to have known and worked with him. Our thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time."
